The primary purpose of the Western Maryland Intergroup is to help carry the message to the still-suffering alcoholic in Alcoholics Anonymous groups in Allegany County, Garrett County, Ridgeley, WV, and, as a courtesy in the Where-n-When, in Salisbury, PA and various locations in WV. Western Maryland Intergroup is responsible for the phone lines, the Where-n-When and newsletter publications, institutional 12th-step work, the website, the annual Gratitude Breakfast, and more so that AA members and their families can hear the message of experience, strength, and hope; "that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism." (reprinted with permission from AAWS,Inc.from the preamble of Alcoholics Anonymous).

Western Maryland Intergroup needs volunteers to help carry the message to alcoholics inside the Allegany County Detention Center, the Garrett County Detention Center, the Wednesday night Massie meeting, and the Thursday Finan meeting. Come join us as we help others in order to help ourselves to recover from alcoholism.
Step 12: Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
Tradition 12: Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our traditions, ever reminding us to place principles before personalities.
Concept 12: General Warranties of the Conference: in all its proceedings, the General Service Conference shall observe the spirit of the A.A. Tradition, taking great care that the conference never becomes the seat of perilous wealth and power; that sufficient operating funds, plus an ample reserve, be its prudent financial principle; that none of the Conference Members shall ever be placed in a position of unqualified authority over any of the others; that all important decisions be reached by discussion vote and whenever possible, and substantial unanimity; that no Conference action ever be personally punitive or an incitement to public controversy; that though the Conference may act for the service of Alcoholics Anonymous, it shall never perform any acts of government; and that, like the Society of Alcoholics Anonymous which it serves, the Conference itself will always remain democratic in thought and action.

I Am Responsible...
When anyone, anywhere, reaches out for help,
I want the hand of A.A. always to be there.
And for that: I am responsible.
